What can ChatGPT and Claude see?

Exactly what that one agent reads, and no more. A key is created inside an agent, so a key for the HR assistant can't answer from the sales folders.

Access is checked before anything is searched, and can only be lowered after a key is made.

Where do I paste the link?

In Claude, as a custom connector; in ChatGPT, as a custom app in developer mode. Both assistants change their menus often, so follow their current help pages.

Claude Pro or Max: Customize › Connectors › + › Add custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an owner adds it under Organization settings › Connectors.
Claude Free allows one custom connector.
ChatGPT: custom MCP apps are for Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces. An admin turns on developer mode, then adds the link under Apps › Create, with no authentication.

How do I keep the link safe?

Treat it like a password: it answers as you. The secret is shown once, and you can give it an expiry, rotate it or delete it at any time.

Expiry: never, 30, 90 or 365 days.
“Get a new secret” replaces the key and switches the old one off at once.
Each key is limited to 60 requests a minute.

Under AI assistants, copy the personal link. It's shown once.

Good to know

Keys and the link are on Pro and Business, as part of Connect your apps.
It reads; it doesn't act. ChatGPT or Claude write the final answer themselves.
In ChatGPT, custom MCP apps depend on your workspace plan and an admin's settings.

Do I need to host an MCP server?

No. ClearMakes Agents runs the MCP server. You paste a personal link that carries your key.

Which Claude plans can add a custom connector?

Anthropic lists Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise; Free users can add one. On Team and Enterprise, only owners can add it (support.claude.com, checked 29 September 2026).

Which ChatGPT plans can add it?

OpenAI's help page says custom MCP apps and developer mode are for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu, on the web, and an admin or owner turns developer mode on (checked 29 September 2026).

Can I limit what it reads?

Yes. Make an agent that reads only the folders you want, and create the key inside it. You can also lower a key's access later, never raise it.
