What does the plugin do?

It adds one chat button to every page of your WordPress site. Nothing loads until you paste your agent ID and tick the box on its settings page.

The chat's colours, greeting and suggested questions come from ClearMakes Agents. Change them there and your site follows.
It works with any theme that calls the standard WordPress footer.
Switch it off any time: untick the box, or deactivate the plugin.

Plugin or snippet: which should I use?

Both load the same chat. The plugin is the easier way on WordPress; the snippet is for any other site, or if you already use a footer code plugin.

Plugin: install it, paste the agent ID, tick the box, save.
Snippet: copy it from Publish and paste it before the closing body tag. Our guide shows where.

What does it send, and where?

The plugin sends nothing from your server. Visitors' browsers load the chat from agents.clearmakes.com, and their messages go there to be answered.

ClearMakes keeps the conversations, so you can read them in your account.
Tell visitors in your privacy policy, and add a consent step if your local law needs one.

How to set it up

Add it to WordPress in four steps

Install the plugin
In WordPress, open Plugins, Add New, search for ClearMakes Agents, then install and activate it.

Make your agent
Sign in to ClearMakes Agents, create an agent and add your website and documents.

Copy the Agent ID
Open your agent and go to Go live. The Agent ID is on that page.

Paste it and switch it on
In WordPress, open Settings, ClearMakes Agents, paste the ID, tick the box and save.

Honest limits

You need a ClearMakes Agents account; the plugin doesn't work alone.
Answers in the chat don't show their sources.
On the Free plan the chat shows a small Powered by ClearMakes line.

Where do I find my Agent ID?
